On the course you will explore the range of service and job roles available in the adult care sector; develop knowledge of the skills and attributes essential to working in the field and develop an awareness of the legislation, principles and values that underpin the profession.

Course aim

To provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of a career in Health and social care

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • The course is for people considering a career in the care sector or for those who may not have considered this type of work due to a lack of Information and knowledge. No previous knowledge or experience is needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Understand the roles of a care worker in a variety of settings
  • Recognise the skills and attributes needed to provide a high quality standard of care
  • Identify personal strengths and learning needs to help plan a career in care

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
