A positive and supportive course which will explore ways of managing change effectively in all aspects of our lives. The course is intended to be inspiring and also a lot of fun! Session 1 What is change? Which changes have you experienced in your life and how have these changes affected you? Understanding the Change Cycle The feelings we experience at each stage of the change cycle. Session 2 Being in our Comfort Zone Taking ourselves out of our comfort zone What needs to happen to make us feel more comfortable about change? Understanding that change can be good Using our skills and strengths to manage change effectively Session 3 Making changes for yourself – becoming more independent Understanding and prioritising which parts of our lives we want to change Knowing how and where to get some support if needed when making changes Session 4 Making an Action Plan for Change Next Steps

Course aim

A 4 week course which will help participants to identify the challenges faced when experiencing changes and transitions in their lives and develop skills and confidence to manage change with confidence and independence.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Describe how change has affected you
  • Explain what is meant by the cycle of change
  • Describe three skills / strengths which will give you the confidence to make changes
  • List three ways you can start to make changes independently
  • Create a personal action plan to make changes important to your life

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • No need to bring anything but some people find it helpful to bring a notebook and pen to jot down useful information.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • Tutors will provide handouts and information about further reading and research

What can I do next?

  • Progress to another WEA course
  • This course could lead to a range of job opportunities. Follow link to National Careers Service for more details
  • Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
  • Become involved as a volunteer for a WEA partner or another organisation
