You will learn how to use a feast of creative textile techniques including: how to fuse fabric with Bondaweb; make paper from silk fibres; use applique; create beads using Tyvek; use natural products from the kitchen to dye fabric; make and use printing blocks to print onto fabric, apply hand patchwork techniques and how to make fabric paper.
Course aim
This course aims to give you an opportunity to use materials and try techniques you may not be able to use at home.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Recycle fabric scraps into new fabric using Bondaweb
- Use Tyvek to create beads
- Make and use simple printing blocks
- Use silk fibres to make paper
- Make a simple piece of handstitched patchwork
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
What else do I need to know?
- It will be useful to bring a blank book to keep samples in, together with some form of protective clothing e.g. an apron, and a pen. All other materials will be provided
