Communicate with Confidence

This course is for anyone who wishes to develope personal effectiveness and confidence in social and work relationships. No previous knowledge or experience is required. Students will practice skills in situations relevant to their lives. For example: Talking to your child's teacher, talking to health professionals, travelling in the city. Topics will be negotiated with the students.

Course aim

We will look at; * The three main ways people behave socially * Confidence building * Role play to give a deeper experience of the differences in behaviour

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed
  • This course is for beginners

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • 1. Name the three main behaviour types and understand their differences.
  • 2. Relate better with people in an open and honest way.
  • 3. Seek compromise solutions and demonstrate an awareness of 'rights'
  • 4. Practice talking positively in situations relative to their own personal lives

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions

What else do I need to know?

  • You may want to bring a notebook and pen

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
