From the outer limits of classical music come different styles which embrace sophisticated techniques and different musical sounds to re-activate musical palates. Afro-American Music to World Music which provide an exciting and enjoyable journey with references to classical music and folk music on the way.

Course aim

The aim is to extend musical boundaries and explore Latin American Music; World Music; Afro-American Music and jazz. it will offer a real musical "Meze" to embrace different and exciting sides of the musical experience.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • No skills or experience needed

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • extend my musical knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of different cultures.
  • evaluate and appraise different cultures' contributions to the world of music
  • appraise the social and political connections that influence the music.
  • follow chronologically the development or decline of these different musical styles.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor

What else do I need to know?

  • Nothing else is needed
