Are you interested in developing your creativity and learning new arts skills? Are you looking for a supportive and stimulating arts experience? Then this is the course for you. During the sessions, we will explore drawing and painting using a variety of materials (paint, pastel, pencil, ink etc.) and subject matter. There will be a focus upon working in colour. We will also look at relevant examples of both past and contemporary art works. Beginners, improvers and anyone who hasn't picked up a paint brush for a while are all welcome to join. With ongoing direction, support and feedback, this course aims to increase your skills and confidence, wherever you are starting from.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Paint with more confidence and skill
- Draw with more confidence and skill
- Use colour creatively
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- Additional time spent drawing or painting at home will be encouraged, as it will support your development (for example finishing a piece of art work or repeating an exercise), but this is optional
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
What else do I need to know?
- Please bring pencils, rubber and a pencil sharpener to the first session. A list of further materials required will be given out and discussed. Some (but not all) materials are provided.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No pre reading or pre course work is required
What can I do next?
- Continued development of personal painting and drawing practice. Participation in other arts opportunities, eg at Sheffield Museums and Galleries and The Art House.
