This course is suitable for anyone interested in learning how to improve their communication skills with Deaf People in everyday situations.
Course aim
This course aims to introduce learners to some simple basic skills in British Sign Language (BSL) to enable them to communicate with Deaf people.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is for beginners
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Understand simple, basic information presented in British Sign Language.
- Provide simple, basic information of a personal, social and, or work-related nature.
- Participate in simple conversation with Deaf people, whether in social situations or work-related.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
What else do I need to know?
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
- It would be useful to have a notepad and pen for any notes you wish to take.
