Bring in your manuscripts whether finished or half written. This practical course is aimed at supporting you to develop a finished novel for presentation to agents and publishers.

Course aim

The course aims to initiate a professional approach to writing and ensure students understand the requirements for submitting their manuscripts to agents.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is for improvers
  • Students who have already written a good part of their first draft, or have completed a draft, will benefit most from this course.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Layout a manuscript correctly
  • Create a suitable title for my novel
  • Edit my manuscript effectively
  • Write a synopsis
  • Write a query letter to agent/publisher

How will I be taught?

  • You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
  • As well as submitting regular excerpts from their novels, the students will be expected to complete a synopsis and covering letter in their own time.

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
  • You will feedback every week on what you feel you have learnt/achieved in the session.

What else do I need to know?

  • A pen and notebook is necessary. A course file will be useful to keep your work and handouts from the sessions.
