A fun and creative course enabling you to be inventive with language, enjoying creating your own poetry and listening and sharing with others.
Course aim
Learners will try out poetry as readers, listeners and participants, creating their own writing. They will experiment with form and output, enjoying and gaining from their peers and the works of others.
Do I need any particular skills or experience?
- No skills or experience needed
- This course is suitable for beginners and improvers
By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Create several poems
- Listen to and appreciate poetry
- Have a basic understanding of poetic form
- Have confidence to produce poetry in own time
How will I be taught?
- Teaching methods will be participatory, practical and fun. There will be no homework, though learners will be given the skills to write poetry at home
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- Students are encouraged to keep their writing as a record of the course. Students who wish to keep their work private will be honoured; no one is forced to discuss their work openly or privately
What else do I need to know?
- All materials will be provided
- A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you

- Progress to another WEA course
- Progress to a course with another provider
- Become involved with the WEA in a range of voluntary work and other activities including campaigning as a WEA member
