Art for Wellbeing

Each week will be based on a theme , including holidays, spring, colours, nature. We will explore the theme through class discussion, written articles, art, poetry and and individual work what these things mean to you individually. You will then produce a piece of art or craftwork based around the them of that week with the guidance of the tutor. You will be encouraged to share your ideas with other students and express yourself. Printing, textile collage,painting onto canvas and working experimentally with paint and inks are some possible activities we will cover. The course aims to be fun and relaxing. Full support will be given to complete tasks to a good standard.

Course aim

This relaxed course explores simple art and craft processes to encourage your creativity, positivity and wellbeing.

Do I need any particular skills or experience?

  • This course is suitable for beginners and improvers

By the end of the course I should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an individual response to a theme by producing art or craft work.
  • Work with other students effectively to share ideas and complete a group piece of artwork.
  • Demonstrate the practice of an art or craft you have never tried before.
  • Share with the tutor and group your opinions and experiences relevant to the topic.

How will I be taught?

  • The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning

What kind of feedback can I expect?

  • A range of informal activities will be used by the tutor to see what you are learning which may include quizzes, question and answer, small projects and discussion
  • You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
  • You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
  • There will be a number of tasks appropriate to your course such as written work, creating art or craft, video, photography or small projects. Some of these may be marked to help you progress

What else do I need to know?

  • A selection of materials and basic equipment will be provided but you are welcome to bring additional materials with you
  • There will be a small weekly charge of £1 to cover additional materials.

Pre-course work, reading and information sources

  • No pre reading or pre course work is required
  • No pre reading is required but research on the subject on the internet or in the library may be helpful
