This course is aimed at new and more practised writers. It looks at expanding creative writing skills via exercise, reading work aloud, and sharing information. It is taught by a published poet and short fiction writer. Due to its expanded length - writers have a bit more time to explore their approaches to work.
Course aim
This course is aimed at writers wishing to extend their skills in creative writing, and develop their writing knowledge.

By the end of the course I should be able to:
- Recognise key creative writing skills.
- Hone and develop the above.
- Recognise how to craft a piece of writing.
- Look at what to cut from a piece of work.
- Recognise techniques for creating atmospheric language.
How will I be taught?
- The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you and the group to be actively involved in your learning
- You may be asked to undertake additional work in your own time to support your learning
- Some writing outside the class will be expected, and the tutor is happy to read longer pieces and comment on these.
What kind of feedback can I expect?
- You will have opportunities to discuss your progress with your tutor
- You will be encouraged to share your work with the group and discuss your learning
- You will be encouraged to consider other students work and give your opinions and suggestions
- Feedback from other students is as crucial as tutor feedback, and if you have longer work you'd like the tutor to look at, please say.
What else do I need to know?
- paper, pen, folder, and a writer's notebook - either paper or electronic.
Pre-course work, reading and information sources
- No booklist, but books and websites will be suggested. Tutor's new books are Mr Bowlly Regrets, poems, and Brand New Beat, stories, both King's England 2017.
