Informal theatre workshops led by tutors who are also actors from Miracle Theatre. An enjoyable introduction to performance techniques where participants can explore theatre games, vocal exercises, improvisation, creating physical comedy and developing interesting characters – culminating in a performance to an invited audience of friends and family.
Course aim
To teach basic drama skills, vocal and physical, and to give participants the experience of improvisation, devising scenes and building characters and of exploring different ways of telling stories. The sessions will be fun, confidence-building and provide opportunities for participants to discover their own creativity and give rein to their imagination.

What topics will this course cover
Basic voice and movement; theatre games; improvisation; stagecraft; how to devise a scene; how to tell a story; understanding and interpreting text; discovering and portraying characters.
What will it be like?
WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.
By the end of the course I should be able to:
1. Use basic devising techniques to tell a story. 2. Demonstrate understanding of fundamental stagecraft. 3. Use vocal and physical techniques to build a character. 4. Analyse a short text and suggest ways of interpreting and staging it. 5. Rehearse a short scene with other participants and perform in front of an audience.
How will I know I'm making progress?
Through group and individual evaluation sessions during and at the end of the course.
What else do I need to know, do or bring?
Wear loose comfortable clothing.
