For people wanting to write a novel, this course explores advancement of plot, characterisation, location and style, as well as giving you valuable feedback on your writing.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone wanting to write a novel.

What topics will this course cover

How To Complete Your Novel Beginnings – how to grab a reader Plot Patterns Mythic Plot, and the role of the hero Location, setting and character

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

1. Establish a disciplined writing routine 2. State precisely what their novel is about 3. Write an effective beginning 4. Explain their story in terms of the Mythic Plot 5. Create setting that reveals character

How will I know I'm making progress?

Each student will receive positive feedback and editing suggestions on their submissions, given by the group members and the tutor. They will use these suggestions to edit and improve their work.

Pen, notebook.
