The course aims to develop creative language skills that can be written or recorded. It will look at the descriptive and technical skills we can use to help with language, character or plot.

Course aim

To develop creative language skills and look at different ways to present this work including recording. To introduce how these skills provide benefit in different areas of life.

Who is the course for?

What topics will this course cover

What to write about. How to let your imagination work. How to use your powers of observation. How to speak in our own voice. How to work free from self-regulation. How to work with discipline. How to get over blocks to creativity. How to edit and avoid common mistakes. How to use rhythm and structure. How to give characters depth and empathy. How to provide descriptive skills to any work.

What will it be like?

WEA classes are friendly and supportive. You will be encouraged to work together with your fellow students and tutor. You will be asked to share your ideas and views in the class and work with the group to give and accept feedback in a supportive environment. The WEA tutor will use a range of different teaching and learning methods and encourage you to be actively involved in your learning. You may be asked to undertake work to support your course outside of your class.

By the end of the course I should be able to:

Have more confidence in expressing their own ideas. Developed langauge skills that help with communication in all areas. Have looked at how stories work. Have developed transferable creative skills. Provide support to others in the form of feedback and encouragement.

How will I know I'm making progress?

Through discussion, feedback and improved confidence of the group.
